OpenAI has announced that Codex is now available within the ChatGPT mobile app, bringing a fully-featured mobile experience for monitoring, steering, and approving coding tasks in real time. According to OpenAI, over four million people use Codex weekly. The mobile app connects to machines running Codex, such as laptops, Mac minis, or managed remote environments, loading the live state across active threads, approvals, and plugins. Under the hood, a secure relay layer keeps machines reachable without exposing them directly to the public internet while syncing active session states. The mobile app rollout is currently in preview on iOS and Android across all plans, including Free and Go, with Windows support coming soon. Alongside the mobile release, OpenAI made Remote SSH and Hooks generally available on all plans. Remote SSH enables Codex to connect directly into managed remote environments, automatically detecting hosts from SSH configurations. Hooks allow teams to scan prompts for secrets, run validators, log conversations, and customize Codex behavior. Furthermore, OpenAI introduced programmatic access tokens for Enterprise and Business plans to support CI pipelines, release workflows, and internal automations. Finally, HIPAA-compliant use of Codex is now supported for eligible ChatGPT Enterprise workspaces when using Codex in local environments such as the CLI, IDE, or app, enabling healthcare organizations to use the tool for operational workflows and patient care.
