The next phase of OpenAI’s Education for Countries

OpenAI is advancing its Education for Countries initiative with new government partnerships, localized AI tools, and teacher training programs. The effort spans multiple nations, including Estonia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Greece, and Singapore, focusing on research-driven deployments to improve learning outcomes.

OpenAI has announced the next phase of its Education for Countries initiative, an effort launched at Davos to expand AI adoption in schools through government-led research partnerships, localized AI tools, and teacher training. The first cohort includes Estonia, Greece, Italy's CRUI, Slovakia, Trinidad & Tobago, Kazakhstan, the UAE, and Jordan. According to OpenAI, the work is guided by three core pillars: research-driven deployment using its Learning Outcomes Measurement Suite, localized AI tools like ChatGPT and Codex, and comprehensive teacher enablement. In Estonia, a nationwide deployment via the AI Leap Foundation reaches over 20,000 students and 4,600 teachers, with ongoing research alongside the University of Tartu and Stanford. Other early signals of impact include Jordan's national deployment of the AI Education Assistant 'Siraj' to over one million students, and Kazakhstan's training of more than 84,000 educators. In Slovakia, early university surveys indicate that over nine in ten educators report higher productivity, saving about five hours per week. Additionally, OpenAI is launching an initiative in Singapore in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and GovTech to support personalized learning for mother tongue languages and host educator workshops through a Singapore-specific chapter of the OpenAI Academy. OpenAI also plans to launch a new educator engagement track called OpenAI Luminaries and is currently selecting country partners for its next cohort, which will be announced later this year.

Why it matters

The expansion highlights how major AI labs are securing large-scale, government-backed deployments in the education sector to build evidence for responsible adoption. These nationwide rollouts provide structured testbeds for measuring AI's impact on cognition and productivity in classrooms.
