Sydney will become Anthropic’s fourth office in Asia-Pacific

Anthropic announced the opening of a new office in Sydney, marking its fourth Asia‑Pacific location after Tokyo, Bengaluru, and Seoul. The expansion is driven by strong demand from businesses in Australia and New Zealand and is intended to better serve the unique AI ecosystems of both countries. The company plans to hire a local team and deepen engagement with Australian institutions, collaborating on projects that advance national interests and priority sectors. An executive visit is scheduled for the end of March to formalise partnerships and meet with customers and policymakers. Anthropic’s initial focus will be on supporting enterprise, startup, and research customers, including existing clients such as Canva, Quantium, and Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Australia and New Zealand rank fourth and eighth globally in Claude.ai usage relative to population, with strong use for coding, education, and research. The company is also exploring opportunities to expand compute capacity locally, aligning with the Australian government’s ambitions for sustainable AI infrastructure and addressing data‑residency requirements. Anthropic is in early conversations about longer‑term infrastructure in the region and will share further plans as they develop.
