OpenAI and Dell Technologies have announced a partnership to bring OpenAI's Codex to hybrid and on-premises enterprise environments. According to OpenAI, Codex is one of its fastest-growing enterprise products, utilized weekly by more than 4 million developers for software development lifecycle tasks such as code review, test coverage, incident response, and repository reasoning. Beyond coding, teams are increasingly employing Codex-powered agents to gather context, prepare reports, route feedback, qualify leads, and coordinate business workflows. To scale this adoption securely, enterprises require Codex to function within hybrid and on-premises environments where critical data resides. Through the collaboration, Codex will connect with the Dell AI Data Platform, which businesses use to store, organize, and govern on-premises data. This integration aims to bring Codex closer to internal codebases, documentation, operational knowledge, and workflows. Additionally, Dell and OpenAI are exploring how Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise, and other API-based solutions can connect with the Dell AI Factory to prepare data, manage systems of record, run tests, and deploy AI applications integrated with Dell infrastructure. According to Ihab Tarazi, SVP and CTO of the Infrastructure Solutions Group at Dell Technologies, the partnership provides customers with a practical path to production, enabling Codex to be deployed closer to enterprise data and systems while maintaining organizational controls and supporting diverse software development and knowledge work use cases.
