How Endava builds an agentic organization with Codex

Global software contracting firm Endava is using Codex to build an agentic organization, transforming how its engineering teams deliver software. By codifying senior expertise into AI agents, the company has accelerated software delivery and compressed requirements analysis from weeks down to hours.

According to OpenAI, global software contracting firm Endava is leveraging Codex to build what it calls an agentic organization, integrating AI across the entire client engagement lifecycle from intake to delivery. Joe Dunleavy, Endava’s regional CTO for Europe, notes that engineers have shifted from writing much of the code themselves to overseeing Codex outputs, significantly increasing quality. Mike Krolnik, Global SVP of Agentic Architecture, explains that Codex enables senior architects to codify their judgment and perspective. This allows junior developers to receive real-time, senior-level guidance and produce mature outputs, changing how mentorship and knowledge transfer occur across parallel teams. Rather than treating analysis, design, and build as sequential stages, Endava uses Codex to combine them into a unified tool. For instance, in a project with the company's legal team, a transcript from a two-hour meeting about thousands of pages of contracts was fed into Codex to generate a working requirements specification, reducing a process that normally takes weeks of back-and-forth into just a few hours. Furthermore, teams now produce design documents, diagrams, and specifications live during client sessions to accelerate communication. Endava advises organizations starting out with Codex to capture senior judgment, treat the platform as a desktop agent rather than just a coding assistant, and begin by applying it to non-coding workflows such as requirements analysis or client communication.

Why it matters

This case study demonstrates how generative AI tools can move beyond simple coding assistants to transform enterprise workflows, codifying senior human judgment to scale mentorship and unify software delivery stages.
