GPT-6 Astra: The next generation in intelligence for work

OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 Astra, its most capable and aligned model for business, now available in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API. The model features advanced reasoning, computer use, browsing, and software engineering capabilities. It is designed to integrate into existing workflows without requiring extensive preparation or custom integrations.

OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 Astra, designated as its most intelligent and aligned model for business use. Available now in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API, Astra delivers state-of-the-art performance in professional work, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, and science. Unlike many AI systems that require extensive data preparation, workflow redesigns, and custom integrations, Astra can operate existing applications and write code directly within standard daily workflows, even without an API. Priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, Astra is trained to complete tasks using fewer tokens and retries to lower costs per task. According to OpenAI, internal testing showed that Astra produced unintended outcomes 89% less often than GPT-5.6 Sol and 74.7% less often than Claude Fable 5.1 on internal computer use safety benchmarks. To support enterprise safety and deployment, OpenAI has introduced new enterprise admin controls, confirmation policies, and automated reviews for tool calls. Alongside Astra, the company is launching new enterprise plugins in ChatGPT Desktop from partners like Oracle Analytics, Power BI, Navan, and Avalara. Additionally, Astra is noted as the first model to reach the Critical cybersecurity capability threshold under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework, prompting the implementation of strengthened protections against misuse and unauthorized actions. Zero Data Retention is also available for eligible API customers subject to approval.

Why it matters

Astra represents a major push into enterprise AI by bypassing the need for custom data preparation and integrations, while setting new benchmarks for cost-efficiency, safety alignment, and computer use capabilities.
