OpenAI announced the launch of its commercial operations in Brazil with a new team based in São Paulo, aiming to support the country's rapid AI adoption across businesses, developers, researchers, and public institutions. According to the company, Brazil is one of ChatGPT's three largest markets by weekly active users, with daily message volume reaching approximately 215 million. An independent study funded by OpenAI and conducted by RegLab estimates that artificial intelligence could add nearly R$1 trillion to the Brazilian economy by 2030. Country-level data indicates that Brazilian users are increasingly applying AI to daily work, with work-related messages exceeding the global average. Furthermore, Brazil ranks second globally in OpenAI API developer usage and represents Codex's largest market in Latin America, while ChatGPT Enterprise seats have grown fivefold year over year. Alongside the commercial launch, OpenAI is partnering with local institutions including the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica, the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada, the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, ENTER, Estímulo, and the city of São Paulo to promote educational access, research, responsible AI literacy, small-business support, and improved public services. The company also hosted its first OpenAI para Devs roadshow and a hackathon in São Paulo to engage the local developer and creator ecosystem.
