Codex for every role, tool, and workflow

OpenAI announced new features for Codex aimed at non-developer roles, introducing six role-specific plugins, a preview of hosted interactive websites and apps, and content annotations. Non-developers now account for about 20 percent of overall Codex users and are growing more than three times as fast as developers. Over 5 million people use Codex weekly.

OpenAI has announced a major expansion of its Codex platform tailored for non-developer roles, including analysts, marketers, designers, and investors. According to OpenAI, more than 5 million people use Codex every week. While it began as a software development tool, non-developers now comprise roughly 20 percent of its user base and are growing at more than three times the rate of developers. To support this shift, OpenAI is introducing six new role-specific plugins that bundle 62 popular apps and 110 skills across data analytics, creative production, sales, product design, public equity investing, and investment banking. These plugins allow teams to integrate tools like Snowflake, Canva, Salesforce, and FactSet directly into their workflows without coding. Additional plugins for corporate finance, private equity, marketing strategy, strategy consulting, and legal are planned. Furthermore, OpenAI is launching a preview for business and enterprise customers enabling Codex to create and share interactive, hosted websites and apps via URL. These sites function as dynamic canvases for dashboards, trackers, and review workspaces. OpenAI is also expanding its annotation feature, letting users point to specific parts of documents, spreadsheets, slides, and sites to refine content in place without restarting. Role-specific plugins are rolling out in supported regions, while sites are launching in preview for Business and Enterprise teams.

Why it matters

This release marks a strategic push by OpenAI to expand AI tool adoption beyond software development into general enterprise knowledge work. By integrating specialized plugins and site creation directly into workplace workflows, the platform targets broader business productivity.
