OpenAI announced the expansion of ChatGPT Ads to Southeast Asia and Taiwan, rolling out across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan. This regional expansion follows previous Asia Pacific launches in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and India, bringing the total availability of ChatGPT Ads to over 60 countries. According to OpenAI, ads are intended to democratize access to intelligence by supporting free and low-cost access to ChatGPT. As in existing markets, advertisements will be displayed only to users on the Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions will remain completely ad-free. Advertisers can access the program through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, various technology partners, agency partners such as dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe, and WPP, or via self-service through Ads Manager for eligible businesses. OpenAI stated that user conversations are kept private from advertisers and customer data is never sold. Ads are designed to be clearly labeled, separate from ChatGPT answers, and do not influence the platform's responses. At the end of August, OpenAI reported that ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in under 200 days after launch, with tens of thousands of advertisers participating. Over the coming months, OpenAI plans to continue expanding into new markets while introducing new formats, optimization tools, and measurement solutions.
