A new personal finance experience in ChatGPT

OpenAI has rolled out a new personal finance experience in ChatGPT, allowing U.S. users to securely connect financial accounts and manage their money. Powered by recent GPT-5.5 reasoning capabilities, the feature supports budgeting, tracking spending, and monitoring investments.

OpenAI announced the rollout of a new personal finance experience in ChatGPT for users in the U.S. Originally launched as a preview for Pro users on web and iOS, the feature has expanded to Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users across web, iOS, and Android. Powered by advances in GPT-5.5, ChatGPT can reason through complex personal finance questions when users securely connect their financial accounts. According to OpenAI, the experience supports over 12,000 financial institutions by linking accounts through Plaid, with Intuit support upcoming. Once synced, users can view a dashboard tracking portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. Additional features include weekly updates with financial insights, credit monitoring, stock watchlists, voice support for talking through money questions, manual account entry, and the ability to save context to financial memories. OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT cannot see full account numbers or make account changes, and users retain control over their data and model training settings. While designed to help users understand their spending and plan financial goals, OpenAI notes that the tool does not replace professional financial advice. Users can disconnect their financial accounts at any time, which triggers the deletion of synced data from OpenAI systems within 30 days.

Why it matters

This rollout demonstrates how generative AI models are moving beyond basic conversational interfaces into functional, transaction-adjacent personal assistants capable of reasoning over real-world financial data.
